Talking about the importance of good diet for mental health
Thanks for having me, Tim Beveridge, on NewsTalk ZB’s ‘The Health Hub’ show for Mental Health Awareness Week.
One important point I made is that people often blame themselves for situations that are impacted by the busy modern world we live which makes it difficult to look after yourself. But there are simple things you can do to help!
We talked about some of the culprits that can worsen anxiety, moods and sleep - including caffeine, alcohol and highly processed foods. Don’t worry you don’t have to go without completely if you don’t want to, perhaps try some of the tips and changes we discussed to see if they make a difference to how you feel.
Of course, we also covered factors that can have a positive effect on your mental wellbeing such as foods that nourishes your gut and omega-3s for brain and mood support, and how to go about incorporating these into your diet.

In our conversation, I mentioned my latest book End Your Fight with Food - it’s a practical and compassionate guide to understanding your relationship with food, your body, and your mind to help you start feeling truly well.
