Nutrition and wellbeing support in partnership with Cancer Society

It has been a real privilege to work alongside the Cancer Society to help create a set of nutrition and wellbeing resources, along with the Reclaim Your Energy webinar.

Many of us know someone who has been affected by cancer in some way. For me personally, it is my Dad, who is currently undergoing treatment in the UK.

When someone you love is going through cancer, or recovering from treatment, you quickly realise how important support is - not just medically, but emotionally, practically and day to day.

That is why this work has meant so much to me.

The resources and webinar have been created to support people who are:

  • Living with cancer

  • Going through treatment

  • Recovering after treatment

  • Supporting someone they love

  • Looking for ways to support their long-term health and reduce cancer risk where possible

The focus is on simple, realistic and evidence-informed steps that can help support energy, nourishment, wellbeing and recovery, without adding pressure or overwhelm.

When you feel flatter after treatment

One of the questions that came up at the end of the webinar was from someone who was recovering from treatment and feeling a bit flatter than they had expected. They shared that, in some ways, they felt more tired and low after treatment than they had during it.

This is something other people will probably relate to.

When you are in treatment, there can be appointments, structure, a plan and a clear focus on getting through the next step. Afterwards, when the intensity eases, the emotional and physical impact of what you have been through can really start to catch up with you.

As well as what is happening in your body, it is also important to recognise what may be going on in your mind.

Yes, nutrition matters. Eating regularly, getting enough protein and fibre, staying hydrated, supporting your body with nourishing foods and sleep can all play an important role in helping you rebuild energy over time.

But wellbeing is bigger than food alone.

Where you can, it may also help to spend some time outside in daylight and around nature, watch something that makes you laugh, listen to music and stay connected with people who make you feel good.

And sometimes, one of the most powerful things you can do is acknowledge that it is okay to feel tired.

Recovery is a process. It can take time. You do not need to bounce back instantly or feel positive every day. Sometimes acceptance can actually feel quite freeing, allowing yourself to move through recovery gently, rather than fighting against how you feel.
