Things I've learnt this month: September & October!

Things I’ve learnt (and keep reminding myself of!) ✨

Sometimes it’s the smallest mindset shifts that make the biggest difference. Here are a few that have really stuck with me lately:

💭 Reframing helps. When something feels hard or unfair, pause and ask yourself: “Is this a tragedy or just an inconvenience?” (Dr Ellen Langer). That tiny question can completely change your emotional response and help you regain perspective.

🍜 Protein idea. Not all noodles are just carbs! Soba noodles have 12g protein in an 80g bundle which is the same as 2 eggs. They are very salty so cook in lots of water and rinse several times after draining - try this easy Soba Noodle Edamame Salad recipe

🧠 Pain is more common than we realise. Around 1 in 5 New Zealanders live with persistent pain such as headaches, back pain or osteoarthritis. NZPS, 2022

🚶‍♀️ Out of sight, out of mind really works. Research by Dr Angela Duckworth found that physical distance from temptation reduces psychological distance from temptation. So if you’re trying to make healthier choices, don’t rely on willpower alone - set up your environment to make the right choice the easy one.

🍎 Kiwis throw away $2.9 billion of food every year - 60% still edible! (Love Food Hate Waste NZ)

🥚 Eggs are one of the richest sources of choline, essential for brain and cognitive health. Two eggs provide around 353 mg of choline - that’s 83% of daily needs for women and 64% for men. (Food Composition Tables NZ)

‼️ When it comes to nutrition and wellbeing, there’s a lot of misinformation out there 👀

🥄 45% of nutrition content on Instagram is inaccurate according to this study.
I would argue it is probably higher 😉 Whatever the % is, it is a word of warning.

💊 97% of TikTok videos about weight loss, muscle gain and detox supplements offer no scientific back-up.
